Journal entry by Jennifer Anderson —
Jerry's surgery today went well. I believe it was some wishful thinking or incorrect information that led Jerry to believe he was getting a new prosthetic hip today. He did have surgery and they removed his cement spacer and did a debridement of his joint. Dr. Walker explained that Jerry could potentially get a new hip in one year. We were disappointed in this but please to learn that Dr. Walker wants Gerald to be weight-bearing and participate in transfers and that people can even walk without that hip in place. So, while he may not be home for Honey Days he is still on the road to recovery and doing well. He was hungry all day as surgery started at 3:30. Ashley said he ate all of his supper and dessert. She said he was mentally clear after surgery as well. Here are some pictures from today.
