George’s Story

Site created on January 8, 2024

Papa's clump of gunk - at least that is what we are calling it :)

The past week has been a bit of a whirlwind for us.  Out of the blue on December 30th, Dad woke up with tingling in his fingers.  Thinking that he slept on his arm wrong, we didn't think much of it. However, over the course of the next few days, it became obvious a trip to the ER was in order.  This start our rapid journey of finding a large golf ball sized tumor on his brain that has been diagnosed as Stage 4 Glioblastoma.

We have been overwhelmed as the community God has placed in our lives from our many moves across the country has begun to circle the wagons in support of dad and this shocking news.  WE CANNOT THANK YOU ENOUGH FOR ALL THE KIND AND ENCOURAGING WORDS, THE MEALS THAT HAVE KEPT US NOURISHED, AND THE HUGS AND PRAYERS WE HAVE RECEIVED.  This past week has been overwhelming, but please do not doubt that God has used you to bring light to us in this valley.

He has loved receiving your calls and messages as well.  Unfortunately, he has lost a lot of mobility on his left side. So, if you don't hear back from him please know that it is because of the "hole in his head" as he puts it :) The road ahead will be bumpy, but our plan is to use this website to keep everyone in the loop regarding dad's progress.

Journal entry by Jess Grooms

Well it’s been almost three weeks since George went to his heavenly home.  I’m sorry it’s taken so long to write and thank everyone for coming to send him off.  Life has been rough without him but he left wise thoughts with me that play in my ear constantly.

Thank you for the wonderful food from neighbors, friends, the BSF gentlemen, the PEO ladies, and some people from First Presbyterian.  I can’t thank y’all enough.

I so enjoyed seeing friends who flew just for the day from California and Colorado.  His high school and college friends who drove long distances to honor George.  He was looking down and smiling I’m sure.
Thank you everyone and I pray that someday they will find a cause for glioblastoma and from there it can be dealt with.
