George (Russ)’s Story

Site created on April 18, 2020

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Russ has entered hospice care with his recent diagnosis of Myelodysplastic Syndrome, or MDS, a rare group of disorders in which the body no longer makes enough healthy blood cells – and sometimes referred to as bone marrow failure. Over the last 3 years since his open-heart surgery in February 2017, Russ has had various physical ailments. These robbed him of his independence and his ability to care for his dear wife, Margaret, who recently passed away in November 2019. We have established this bridge to share his personal experiences in his last days and weeks with us, and to give him the ability to reach out to you - his friends and family. If there has been one thing he has missed dearly, it is his ability to communicate with each of you on a regular basis.

Journal entry by Curt Waterman

Dear Family & Friends,

Pictures from the Memorial and Graveside Services on May 29th, 2021 were posted today.

The Memorial Service was held at Vine Valley United Methodist Church (built in 1891).  The Committal was held at Overackers Cemetary with full military honors.

Thank you to all who attended, and to all who were there in spirit to remember our Dad (Russ).  We sincerely appreciate the loving and kind words each of you expressed on Caring Bridge over the past year.

Patients and caregivers love hearing from you; add a comment to show your support.
