Hello everyone!

I am very glad that many of you have paid attention to my recovery on CaringBridge. When I hurt my head it was definitely a difficult experience for me and my family in the first months, but now I’m back in school and everything is going pretty well. I started using a lot of time to play music, and I’ve started doing cardio workouts such as skate skiing and running. I play the upright bass and on April 4th, I’ll be playing at TWK, a restaurant in Winchester. This event is a fundraiser directed by Swim Winchester for building a community pool near our high school. If you want to hear some nice jazz, you should definitely come. You won’t regret it!

I’ve been able to spend a lot of time with my friends again, which I enjoy. I got to watch the Pats destroy the peasants from LA with some of them. In school, I’m currently taking Music, English and Math. Homework is taking quite a long time, but thankfully I’m understanding most of the material. Although it’s great that I don’t have to take too many classes, it means that I will have to do make-up work for school this summer. I am now getting tutored for both English and Math by members of our school’s faculty, which is very helpful.

I also got to meet the woman who called 911 and the dispatcher. I talked to the paramedics and cops who brought me to MGH after my fall. They came to pick me up in record time. 5 minutes! They gave me the best chance of a good recovery.

I think the most important thing I realized from this unfortunate journey was that so many people did acts of kindness for my family and me. This includes people making us dinner, giving me a champions league soccer ball, letting me visit Victor Wooten (if you don’t know his music, you should look him up), buying me some sweaters, and getting me whiteboards. Some of my friends also came to the Spaulding Rehab Center, to see how I was doing and to make sure I wasn’t getting too lonely. It made me so much more happy to have your support and help. Without you all, this would have definitely been a more difficult experience for me and my family. Thank you all so much.

Sincerely, George Gilmer
