Gayle’s Story

Site created on September 27, 2023

Over recent months Gayle began feeling tired and unwell with many unexplained symptoms. Initially she had vague discomfort that led to increasing pain in various places. During the night ofFriday September 15, 2023, her chest pain became unbearable. Donny rushed her to Paoli Hospital early in the morning and several tests and scans were done that day. Before the end of the day, they had a diagnosis.

Gayle has stage 4 Metastatic Lung Cancer that has spread to multiple organs. Donny called their adult children to the house that following Saturday to give them the news first. As you can imagine, it was a shock to each of them. The next morning, while all together, her pain became severe as she tried to swallow some food, causing her to go into an unresponsive state. She was transported to the closest hospital in an ambulance.

Thankfully, she regained consciousness, and her family was able to meet with the medical team at Christiana Care Hospital near Newark Delaware. Doctors there confirmed the diagnosis and that treatment was not a viable option. Gayle and the family chose for her to seek Hospice Care through Christiana. The Hospice team has been able to prescribe pain relieving medications and she is being kept comfortable back in her own home. Gayle is now fully alert and interactive with the family in between very tired spells and all are trying to figure out this new normal.

Gayle’s faith in the Lord she loves with all her heart has been sustaining her for many years and it continues to give her strength and hope each day. She longs to see her Saviors’ face and does not fear the day that her life here on earth ends and her new life in heaven begins.

We will do our best to update Gayle’s Caring Bridge site as needed. Your prayers are so appreciated!
