Gary’s Story

Site created on August 6, 2023

Welcome to Gary's site. Thank you for joining him, Robyn and Anthony on this health journey. On July 31, Gary had brain surgery at Froedtert Hospital which revealed a Glioblastoma (cancer). Surgeons emphasized the positive, saying that while it was not curable, it was treatable. He recovered sufficiently that he was transferred on Aug. 4 to the Froedtert Rehabilitation Center in Wauwatosa on Bluemound Road near St. Camillus where he will undergo occupational, physical and speech therapy. Down the line, he will likely need chemo and radiation therapy to control the growth of the tumor. His spirit remains positive and he appreciates all the love and support that he has been given. Peace.

Journal entry by Cathy & Steve

Gary begins his cancer treatment Monday. It will consist of oral chemotherapy coinciding with a series of radiation treatments that will last several weeks. He will then get a prognosis at the end of that round of treatment. He is in sound spirits though his post-surgical memory issues persist. Again, he and Robyn and AJ really appreciate all the love, support and food (the big bottom freezer in the kitchen is stocked full, thank you). The caregiving situation has stabilized around Kara and she has been a godsend when it comes to organizing Robyn and Gary's medications and getting both of them to their various appointments. Wish us luck please!
