Gary’s Story

Site created on August 6, 2019

Thank you for visiting Gary's CaringBridge site.
Gary was diagnosed with small cell carcinoma cancer on October 12, 2018.  Unfortunately, this particular kind of cancer is not curable, so all treatments received have been for the purpose of extending his time here on earth.  We have discontinued all radiation and chemo treatments as of February 2019, as his body is no longer able to handle the stress.  Currently, he is receiving immuno-therapy treatments every 3 weeks to help build his body's natural ability to fend off the cancer.

We didn't originally create a CaringBridge site as our family isn't really super public... but with the outpouring of support, it is becoming increasingly hard to keep everyone in the loop regarding his status.  So... we will aim to post updates and news here moving forward.

Thank you for your continued love, prayers, and support.  :)

Newest Update

Journal entry by Kelly Hansen

Happy May! :)

Gary went in on Monday for us CT scan and MRI.  Luckily, the oncologist called just a few hours later and gave us great news: no visible changes!

Its a bit surreal as we're sorta getting spoiled with these 'clear' bills of health.  We're trying to keep things in perspective and stay grateful, as we've been given such a gift:  time with him that we never thought we'd have.

Be thankful for those around you today.  In this crazy world we're living in, its easier now than ever to get frustrated with your house-mates and family; but at the end of the day, they're truly what matter most.  Be patient, and get out there and enjoy the spring weather.

Stay healthy! Love to you all :)
