Gary’s Story

Site created on March 27, 2019

Whether you are a parent, spouse, or sibling, you will be moved by Gary’s story. Situations like this just shouldn’t happen to good people.
Gary is a 21 year old from Basalt, Colorado. He loves his family and friends, and treats anyone he meets with true kindness. Gary enjoys snowboarding, skateboarding, exploring the beautiful state of Colorado, and he has rock solid Faith in God.
In August 2018, Gary was diagnosed with Germ Cell Cancer. Gary then took on 4 rounds of Chemotherapy at Callaway Young Cancer Center in Glenwood Springs. After those 4 long months Gary finished his treatment plan with surgery at UC Health in Aurora Colorado to remove 2 remaining tumors in Gary’s chest. Doctors successfully removed the tumors and Gary was told he had clear scans. Gary was then able to return to work and continue his normal life. However there was a microscopic cell that remained. Re-diagnosing Gary in March of 2019. Though the news was completely devastating Gary continues to be a model of Faith and courage, and he truly is living every day with a beautiful spirit of hope. He has recently committed to another treatment plan to hopefully reverse the cancer that has invaded his young body.
As we are searching for every option available to find a cure for Gary, medical expenses are piling up which is especially challenging on him. Especially with not being on a regular work schedule since he was first diagnosed.
Those who know Gary are in awe at his positive attitude in the face of such a difficult journey. Gary has inspired his entire family and many friends to live with faith in a loving God, and never lose hope despite the challenges ahead.
We know Gary is a fighter and he will continue to fight this disease. Please take the time to support Gary with a donation and a prayer.
All donations will be used towards medical expenses - and every dollar counts. Thank you so much for your kindness and help supporting our fight with Gary, and may God Bless You.

Journal entry by Chelsi Magaña

Hello everyone!

Today is day -1 of the treatment which is Garys second day of his rest day. Most of yesterday Gary was off and on sleeping and having issues with a headache and some nausea. Throughout the night Gary was having his vitals checked and just making sure that he is comfortable.
We moved rooms to a secluded part of the hospital because now with the chemo taking affect his immune system will take a plunge and they want to make sure that he will not catch something that can negatively affect him. In this part of the hospital they have a different air system flowing allowing Gary to have “cleaner” air that is not being circulated within the hospital. It was a rough start this morning with the nausea starting to hit him and just all around feeling crappy.
Gary is still being Gary and keeping the hopeful and positive about everything. Tomorrow (5/16) Gary will be getting his cells transferred back into him.

We continue to pray that God lay his healing hands on Gary as his road from here will get tough and to guide him into comfort.

God Bless, & #GaryStrong🧡
