Gary’s Story

Site created on December 30, 2019

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Dec 30th, 2019 is Day 46 in the hospital for Gary. What began with a planned surgery then turned into an infection that then led to other complications. This is Day 14 in the ICU after Gary's heart stopped. Since 12/16/19, Gary has been sedated while breathing tubes are in place. The medical team attempted twice to remove the tubes (one unplanned and the most recent planned), however Gary's breathing seems to need some help. While the tubes were out, Gary was able to speak and recognized family. The last time the tubes were out, he even sang a song to test out his lower, raspy voice. The latest is that the medical team needed to put a breathing tube in again, so Gary is currently lightly sedated to be comfortable. Overall Gary is very weak, as you might expect for someone who has been in the hospital this long. The medical team and family are taking each day as it comes, since the plans tend to change frequently.

Please pray for endurance and strength as this journey continues.  If you have questions, please use Caring Bridge and we will answer when we are able. Thank you
