Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

It was the week of Kylie's wedding mid-July and Gabe, and Megan flew in the Wednesday before.  We had a house full and were outside playing the whip cream trick.  Gabe decided to play and whip cream smeared on his shirt, so he took his shirt off to change and Kylie noticed a lump on his neck.  We all looked and had not noticed it prior to this.  I decided it was best to get it looked at that day and so we drove to the urgent care up the street.  The Dr. asked many questions and was moderately concerned.  He advised to have a CT scan either in Vancouver or back in Phoenix, where Gabe and Megan live.  Once Gabe got back to Phoenix, he saw his Dr. and had an ultrasound done on his neck.  On 7/25/22 he was diagnosed with Thyroid cancer.  The first Dr. he saw was informative, helpful and optimistic.  She recommended Gabe have a Biopsy which took place the following Monday, August 1st.  We anxiously awaited the results to find out what type of thyroid cancer he had.  We found out he had Papillary Carcinoma.  On 8/23/22 he had a second opinion with a Dr. who also did an ultrasound. She informed Gabe that the Cancer was a social kind, inviting the lymph nodes to the party and many accepted, especially on the Left side of his neck.  She also said, she would like to have a CT scan for more information and a bigger 3D picture.   The CT scan was scheduled for 9/1/2022. On 8/26/2022 Gabe and Megan saw a 3rd Dr. for their 3rd Opinion, a Dr. highly recommended by both the first surgeon and also by a friend.  He and Megan chose this surgeon to do his surgery.  His surgery will be very involved and be approximately 10 hours.  2 surgeons will be involved removing the thyroid, lymph nodes, other masses on the left side of his neck.  The surgery will take place on Tuesday, September 20th, 2022. He will also follow the surgery up several weeks later with a radioactive Iodine pill that will also be helpful. After that he will take a thyroid medication for the rest of his life.

We are continuing to trust that God's got Gabe.  The love and support that we feel is amazing.  We thank you for your prayers, love and concern for our special son, brother, husband and friend.

Love, The Rodgers

Thank you to everyone who has been following up with us! I had my post treatment scan last week to see if I still have cancer and need to do more treatment. We are happy to share that my scan and bloodwork results came back clear, with no uptake of cancer in my body! We are celebrating and praising God that we don’t have to do another round of treatment as of now! Our next appointments will be in 6 months to make sure no cancer has popped back up. Thank you for all of your support, love, and prayers! We are praying this door stays closed and my good health continues!

James 1:2-4 “Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.”
