Triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) is cancer that tests negative for estrogen receptors (ER), progesterone receptors (PR), and excess human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) protein. This means that the cancer is unlikely to respond to hormonal medicines or medicines that target the HER2 protein.

Journal entry by Jessica Ruhl

Hello everyone and happy New Year! I am writing today to share a note from John:

I just wanted to thank everyone.  It has been over a month since Ruby passed and I have to admit I am still struggling.  However, I wanted to express to everyone how grateful I am for their support.  It is so nice to have someone pass a note, text or email to the kids and I, expressing that they are thinking about us.

I also wanted to pass along how indebted I am to everyone who donated to Ruby’s “Go Fund Me” page.  I don’t want this to devolve into an ax grinding session or a debate about healthcare. However, the bottom line is, that even with healthcare, we would have accrued a great deal of debt for things that healthcare did not cover. Your donations to the “Go Fund Me” page alleviated this burden.

I just mailed the largest portion of the payment for Ruby’s medical bills.  Without your contributions, this would have taken months if not years to pay.  To all who donated, if you ever wonder if “do I do good things for other people?” Let me assure you, you do.

I do want to single out Ruby’s sister Jessie for starting the page. I am ashamed to say, I don’t think I would have done it myself.  My pride would have gotten in the way and my family would have suffered by having to pay for all of it. Jessie took charge, got it going and took such a great “weight” off us.

Due the fact that Ruby’s medical bills (or at least a great portion of them) have been paid off, we are closing down the “Go Fund Me” page.  It did its job and helped in our time of need.

In closing, I would like to thank everyone again. I know I have been slow to reach out, but rest assured I am so grateful.

John
