Newest Update

Journal entry by Jessica Berndt

I guess these updates are becoming monthly 😁

Thank you all for the donations to Gigi's Playhouse and celebrating Freddy's birthday with us.  It was a perfect day!

It has officially been four weeks without antibiotics, and there is no sign of infection! Praise the Lord 🙌  Cardiothoracic surgery and the infectious disease team have officially taken Freddy off their radar.  We no longer have to check in weekly, they just requested to notify them if anything changes. That means no surgery for the foreseeable future 😀

Freddy had a sleep study a couple of weeks ago (Daddy got to experience it this time 😝), and we just got the results back. Drumroll please.... Freddy officially does not require oxygen at night any longer! Praise the Lord x2🙏 He still holds a diagnosis of mild sleep apnea, but he is able to quickly bring his oxygen saturation back up after an episode and the episodes are few.  Our pulmonologist prescribed him flonase to help with this, and he recommended a follow-up sleep study in 6 months.  Also, he said that Freddy was restless a lot during the night which may be due to low levels of iron so we are going to get that evaluated with bloodwork. His restlessness could also be due to all of the wires and glue all over him, but he seems pretty restless at home as well so we figured it was worth checking out.

Freddy's first year check-up went well, and the pediatrician is so pleased with where Freddy is at.  However, his bloodwork showed high levels of the thyroid hormone, but the thyroid level was normal.  She said that this means that his thyroid is working extra hard to maintain his levels so she referred us to an endocrinologist.

Feeding wise, we had a little bit of a setback.  Freddy got a stomach bug for about week. He was miserable, and he couldn't eat for a couple of days.  We were originally worried about tube feeding issues because we were changing some things, but it turns out it was just a bug! He is completely back to good health, and we are slowly working our way back up there with purees.

We have one tooth! It came right after his birthday. He can officially roll from back to belly, but then gets stuck and cries for us to roll him over.  He is doing awesome pushing himself up during tummy time, and he can do the tripod sit for about a minute before he poops out. We started physical therapy and occupational therapy last week. We are excited to learn new ways to help support his development. He finally sits in his back seat so we are doing lots of bike riding, and we got a new floating for the tub so he is obsessed with bath time!

Thanks for checking in on our boy, will update more next month
