Franz’s Story

Site created on December 1, 2020

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

On Saturday, November 28, 2020, Franz Wall suffered serious injuries while skiing. Some of the most significant injuries included spinal cord damage, spinal column damage, broken hip, broken pelvis, and liver injury. He was airlifted to Reno for treatment.

As soon as word of his accident started to spread, an ever growing wave of prayer and other support began for Franz and his family.

This site was established to allow Franz’s parents, Walter and Christy Wall, and eventually Franz himself as well, to more easily disseminate accurate information to friends and family about Franz’s journey after his accident.

The first journal entries will be copies of the texts of posts made by Christy and Walter Wall on Facebook so that the record here will be complete. After that, Walter and Christy, and eventually Franz, will be posting current updates here to make it simple for friends and family to keep up to date on Franz’s condition, as well as how prayer and physical support can best be offered to both Franz and his family as they travel this long road.

The Wall Family has begun a new, long, arduous journey. Thank you in advance for your prayers and support and kindness and patience. Adjustment to new normals takes time. Sometimes waves of sorrow or stress or exhaustion will make posting less consistent. Please grant the Walls grace as they work through this time. And, please continue to pray God’s strength, wisdom, and healing for Franz and his family.

Here is a little preview:

For eight months I sat beside my son as he fought not only for life, but for a meaning to his new life. We sat in silence, for he could not speak, and I had no words. And even when, at long last, he could speak, our silence continued. Neither of us could describe nor provide an answer to the indescribable sorrow and grief that existed around us. In the quiet of those months, my soul rummaged around for understanding, like looking in Grandma’s old attic for that all important slip of paper or treasure that would explain what was happening.

I found a few treasures, and those treasures are what I share with you in my book, The Greatest Battle. I hope that you can laugh a little, maybe cry a little and maybe it will help you find the path to the treasures which lay hidden in your own heart. For we are all on the same journey, even if by different paths.

The Greatest Battle is a series of stories culminating in Franz’s accident. Stories from the backstreets of Paris with a handsome boyfriend coming to the rescue. Stories about sailing a luxury yacht in high seas, a prophetic glittering dress of gold and a wild horse who tamed the soul of a grieving mother. There are stories of wild dreams and crazy adventures, true love, and a bounty of children. You will read stories of saints and unlikely heroes. There are stories where it was the humblest of men who taught us true charity and a town that taught us the strength of community. You will read how God, like a great master of the arts, taught me how to trust, how to love, and how to live. And I, the unlikely and often unwilling student, found that, at the moment of battle, I had everything I needed to fight the good fight
