Welcome to Franke’s CaringBridge Site
Sign In to Show Your SupportFriends, Franke is doing the same physically, though in case you visit, it may be helpful to be aware of how you may find her. Franke sleeps a lot. She may be hard to rouse. If she has a seemingly alert day, she may sleep the next two days. We cannot predict when those days may occur, other than observing a pattern that if alert one or two days, then she may sleep the next two or three. She can sleep through visits or activities like Bingo and may not be able to respond. When awake, she may talk about her father as though he is alive and coming to see her. She has talked about her father in present tense for many months now. She gave Greg a craft to take back to Gastonia to give her father. We don’t correct her to avoid upsetting her, and then we attempt to redirect the conversation. She talked for weeks about needing to go shopping for a purple checked shirt to give him. She gets on a subject that may preoccupy her mind for weeks at a time. Her perception of time is just not accurate, so that presents challenges for caregivers as she believes she waits hours (usually 5 hours, lol) for assistance or requests. She still recognizes Paul, but fusses because she says she hasn’t seen him in 3 weeks even though he was there the day before and generally goes 3x a week. She remains fully obsessed with Diamond Art and when awake, this will be her focus of conversation. Please be prepared her speech may be difficult to understand, The good news is she is still sleeping through the night, is eating well (she may not admit that, lol), and will eat her always eat her dessert first! Our philosophy is at 92 years of age she can eat her dessert first and order all the Diamond Art she wants, and Paul will dutifully take it to Hobby Lobby to get it framed. Somehow she has decided Hobby Lobby has been in financial trouble, and her business has single-handedly saved them from financial ruin. We laugh so we don’t cry.
Her sitter schedule is the following:
Monday: Becky; Tuesday and Thursday: Karen; Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday: Misty
We are more appreciative than words can ever say for the care she receives from her sitters and from Trinity Ridge.
The photo is today’s delivery of Diamond Art. Bless Karen, Misty, and Becky for their dedication in doing such a tedious job for her. She is a demanding taskmaster!
