Frank’s Story

Site created on April 14, 2023

April 12, 2023 was the day we were dreaming of for a long time.…finally purchasing our dream home together and the moving trucks were coming Friday. Instead of the happiest day ever, I got a call from Frank’s son Jack while I was at the title company that Frank was probably having a stroke.

He was rushed to Toledo Hospital and then rushed into surgery. He had a hemmhoragic stroke (the more rare type) and a brain bleed on his right side. The surgery was successful, all things considered, but there are a lot of unkowns.

Because of Frank’s heart valve replacement 18 months ago, he has to take blood thinners for life. Right now he can’t take them because of the brain bleed. The brain trumps the risk of a heart attack due to his brain bleed. As his doctors said, this is one of the most challenging scenarios to be in.

He’s now weaned off sedation and we are praying he wakes up soon. We get a little movement in his extremities, but that’s it.

It’s too soon to understand any neurological damage. The doctors are preparing us that it may be two weeks before we have an idea of what we are dealing with.

I know the logical question is what do we need? Right now, we need him here with us. We need prayers and positive energy and miracles. He has two amazing boys that don’t deserve this and has truly stepped up for my girls too since they lost their dad. We’ve been working so hard to build a future together. He has sooo many family members and friends that need Frank in their life.

Our immediate needs are met, but I will make sure we ask for what we need. So many people have helped us already.

Journal entry by Alison Frye

In the Italian culture, “Buon Anima” means “God rest their soul”. This is what the family said while doing a toast for our beloved Frank. As we were pouring our shots of his favorite drink, Jack Daniels. About 40 minutes after he passed, in the most Frank-like fashion - he gave us a gift of a massive rainbow stretching over the Toledo skyline that we could see from the hospital sunroom. I think that was his way of telling us that he is at peace and reuniting with everyone in Heaven.

Frank passed away at approximately 7:25 this evening peacefully, surrounded by family. He was loved and cherished by so many, and he will be dearly missed.
