Journal entry by MARIA GARCIA-ADARVE —
Obituary written by Alexis Gormley, Frank's niece.
The man we’ve all considered teflon for ages – who seemingly had unlimited lives – passed away on Saturday. Having survived major back injury (along with 5 back surgeries), esophageal cancer, a 98 percent blockage heart attack and COPD, he lived almost a year with stomach cancer. It was finally time.
Frank was every bit his name – he didn’t mince words, didn’t suffer fools, spoke up when he felt it was right and honestly could give a sh*t if other people cared about it. He was gregarious, generally the life of the party with a laugh audible for miles. We always knew when Frank was in the building. He was thoughtful and kind-hearted – doing his part to be a good human – helping others in big ways and small – donating platelets monthly like clockwork when he was able, volunteering to help out with toy drives and community events.
He could be found most mornings at the Starbucks down the road holding court for other locals and his CHP friends, calling out to people by name and a standard greeting – “how the hell are ya!”
Even in the middle of a terminal diagnosis, he was quick to smile and slap you on the arm “you know I’m dying right?” And that was Frank, never one to miss a beat, always sure to face life, and in this case, death, head on.
As a brother, a husband and an uncle he will be terribly missed.
No service will be held per Frank’s request.
