Journal entry by Celia Oyler —
This past Thursday evening, the U-Mass College of Education had a celebration of scholarship donors and recipients. It was a very intense experience for me to be in the College of Education--a place that Florence gave so much to and loved so profoundly. She was remembered with so much passion and appreciation. ....
And now today is the year anniversary of when Florence made the decision to enroll in hospice.
I have decided to mark her death day on June 1 by creating an altar then sit in meditation. I will have the front door at 48 Knipfer Avenue in Easthampton open from 9 am to 5 pm. I will have her books out on the dining room table so that anyone can take one or twenty....I invite you to join me and offer memories, poems, songs, tears, laughter. (When folks are here, I will get up from the meditation cushion, unless you want to join me with whatever your version of silent contemplation is....)
Feel free to bring food for others to enjoy, candles to light, flowers to adorn the altar, and/or prayers for our family's well-being as we learn to walk this earth without Florence by our side. ..... Celia
A $25 donation to CaringBridge powers a site like Florence's for two weeks. Will you make a gift to help ensure that this site stays online for them and for you?
