Fin’s Story

Site created on September 9, 2020

Welcome to Fin's CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place.  As you know, Fin was diagnosed with a tumor in the front right side of his brain four years ago in 2016.  After a biopsy, we learned it was a grade 3 glioblastoma.  Fin underwent radiation and several rounds of chemotherapy the first few years, and it worked at shrinking the tumor.  Over the last 2 years Fin has enjoyed working for 47 Brands and his tumor has been stable.  Unfortunately last month, August 2020, we learned that his tumor has grown significantly and is now a grade 4.  This is not good news.  His Neurosurgeon at Beth Israel performed a long surgery on Sept 2, and feels he was relatively successful in getting a large amount of the tumor removed.  Fin has a long and at times frustrating road ahead of him dealing with surgery recovery and the effects of the tumor, but he is ready to continue the fight.   Please check below for  updates, we will do our best to keep you informed.  We appreciate your love and support,  and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Journal entry by Carrie Weston

... we regret to announce that our Fin passed away yesterday.  His last weeks were difficult, he fought so hard.  He had been unconscious and his breathing the last 2 days was labored.  He took his last peaceful breath at 510pm with Brendan by his side, joined quickly by Wilma and Emma. He has been reunited with his Dad and we are certain he is leading a big Celtic gathering in heaven.

Fin touched so many lives, none more than his mom, siblings, wife, kids, and many friends.  Local arrangements in West Roxbury are as follows: Visiting hours are Wednesday March 17th from 5-8pm at Gormley Funeral Home.  The funeral is also at Gormley on Thursday March 18 at 9am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated in the Holy Name Church at 10am. There will be private arrangements in Scotland at a later time. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family would prefer supporting the Children’s Brain Tumor Foundation, as Fin really felt for the kids going through brain tumor diagnosis and its effects.  Fin and his family have also been big supporters of St. Jude Research Hospital.

There is sadness and an emptiness so deeply felt already.
