Journal entry by Missey Stenzel —
Last post!!! Thank you to everyone who wrapped their hearts around our family this past week. To know Finley is to love her, her strength comes from the army of supporters she has behind her without a doubt. Fin is doing remarkably well. It’s amazing to think that just one week ago she underwent a laminectomy. We will return to NY next Tuesday for her first post op appointment with her neurosurgeon. Until then she has some restrictions but they aren’t holding her back. She is still walking a bit funny and guarding but with physical therapy and time this should improve.
We were so impressed by the experience we had at Mt. Sinai, they were responsive, proactive and just overall amazing from nuero surgery, intensive care, gi, to child life, we are so lucky to have had such great care for our child. In the process of caring for Finley post op the attending in the picu recognized her gastric motolity disorder right away and was able to connect us with a nuero gastroenterologist at Colombia, ironically the same one that Finleys Dr. In Boston reccomended she see. Over the next t six months we’re hoping to see improvements in Finleys function, recognizing that we will need to be patient, and that gi guidance will be most important. It feels so good to finally see things come together for our girl and for our family. Lastly, we couldn’t have gotten through this week without the Ronald McDonald House. If you are looking to support a charity, this one is incredible! Thank you again for cheering us on through this roller coaster of a week, we needed you. 💕✨🙏🏼
