Well, I've spent the last few days thinking about how to write this update. Never could get it quite right. So, just going to put it out there. Last Monday evening while I was sitting on the deck enjoying the absolutely gorgeous weather and listening to the birds sing, I recieved my diagnosis. It's stage 4 renal cell carcinoma. This is not the news we had been wanting, but it is the hand we have been dealt. It's not an outright death sentence. But, it's not curable. This is not the beginning of any end, but the beginning of an even greater battle. A battle for time. Time to make memories for my children to carry on. Time to hold and comfort my amazing wife. How much time we have is kind of unknown right now. But, we remain hopefull! We met with both my radiology oncologist and oncologist on Tuesday. I have another mri on Monday and then hopefully will be starting radiation treatments. Since I am considered young and "relatively healthy", we are going to do very high dose rounds every other day for 3 weeks. After radiation we will start a prerty heavy combination of immunotherapy drugs. There are many different drugs and treatments for this, and we will find the right ones! The hope is to be able to kick it's ass into submission, and buy some time! And maybe in that time there will be some breakthroughs! Still not quitting! Fighting even harder!
