Eric’s Story

Site created on July 26, 2021

On July 24th, 2021 Eric Fass was critically injured in a livestock accident when a cow was spooked at the Otoe County Fair.  Eric is currently fighting for his life with a serious brain injury.  The Fass family is an integral part of the Syracuse community but known and loved by many, far and wide.  This page was made so that Eric's wife Amanda and their children Jaden, Abe, and Braxton are able to spend time together as a family and not having to send multiple updates to many people.  Eventually the family may be ready to update on their own but until then, just like everything else, we will handle it for now so their main focus is on Eric and their family.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Christa & Joe Reisdorff

ALOT has happened since my last update which is good but shame on me for not updating our progress!!! So, I'm the last couple of months we got Eric's puppy that soon will be trained to be his service dog to help him around the farm. Her name is Daisy and we are absolutely in love with her!! Dr. Dowdall our Airway surgeon from UNMC and her team came to town to put on a trach training for our community. The turnout was amazing and a lot was learned! Thank you to anyone that was able to make it and we are hopeful we can plan another one in the near future for those who were not able to make it.  We started back at Madonna outpatient rehab and are already making big strides. Last week Eric was able initiate 4 steps while walking in the Litegait. This is a piece of equipment that has him in a harness to pull some weight off his legs as he relearns to walk. His right eye is getting stronger but is now causing his left eye to grow weaker as they are not playing nice together so we are starting new therapies to get the brain and eyes to work together. He is very light sensitive!!! I am hopeful he will not turn into a vampire but some days I wonder!! We hired a nurse!!!! Only took a year and a half but finally perseverance paid off, her name is Claire Brown and has been a great addition to our team so far!! Spent last week training her his medical cares and now this week I am transitioning back to work.  So blessed to have been able to keep my job after all this time and am now going back.  Still working with lots of different agencies that ultimately will help me get Eric the technology he will need to get back to work himself in a couple years. I have high hopes he will continue to improve physically and cognitively to be able to be on his own again someday but we have a very long way to go get. We will keep praying on it, God has brought us this far!! Stay tuned for more!!
