Faith’s Story

Site created on May 8, 2023

Hello!

We’ve created this page to follow the journey of Faith’s double lung transplant procedure. After being sick with lung-related issues since 2019, Faith finally got correct lung diagnoses in February 2022. She was diagnosed with interstitial lung disease, pulmonary fibrosis, and hypersensitivity pneumonitis. Since then, she has been working diligently with the lung transplant care team at the UMN hospital, working towards getting on the waitlist for a new set of lungs! After a lot of hard work, she was listed in February 2023 and has been waiting for her time to get transplanted. Feel free to follow along here for any updates once she goes through the transplant surgery, and share any well wishes as she goes through this process. It could be any day, week, or month now, so we are all just waiting for that special call to come in!

Newest Update

Journal entry by Grace Miner-Lauer

Hello!

It’s been awhile since we’ve shared an update! Apologies, but life has been so busy and we have been so tired. Many good things have progressed for Faith! She’s gotten her stomach feeding tube out in, she’s started to eat foods, she’s been doing great PT walking and moving around, and she’s just barely got any cords left attached! The past two weeks we’ve been trying to plan for her to go to a transitional care facility for a bit to help with PT, but ion the process of planning, getting insurance auth, etc, she ended up making so much progress they said- let’s skip transitional care and just send you home! Woohoo! She is scheduled to get discharged tomorrow evening. We are all very excited about her progress, and so happy she’ll get to be home so soon. I’m sure the cats and Rubi will be OVER THE MOON to see her.

As part of the process for preparing, Spence and I (Grace) have gotten lessons on meds, feeding tube usage and care, and other FAQs for transplant patients. It’s a lot of information but we are hoping it will all flow smoothly enough as we get used to it!

She will have her first clinic appointments the very next day as she continues to get monitored during this transition! We appreciate everyone checking in and the well wishes, and we are so happy to see her doing so well! 💜
