Journal entry by Lakeisha McVey —
Today would've been our sons second birthday. Our hearts are heavy knowing we couldn't spend it with him but we honored his memory by doing some of the things he loved most: visiting the Des Moines Botanical Garden and going to Reiman Gardens in Ames.
Thank you to those of you who contributed to getting a plaque at the Blank Park Zoo to honor Ezekiel's memory. With the donations we received, we were able to get the $500 silver oak leaf engraved with the words "Ezekiel McVey, Our Sunflower" on it. It'll be a few weeks before it's posted up at the sensory garden in the zoo but once it's up, it will stay up forever for anyone to visit. We miss him so much and knowing we'll always have this spot in the zoo to visit, to think about him and honor him fills our hearts.
Thank you all for the love and support we've received. It means more than words will ever be able to express.
A $25 donation to CaringBridge powers a site like Ezekiel's for two weeks. Will you make a gift to help ensure that this site stays online for them and for you?
