Journal entry by Jolinda Steiner —
It's been a challenging week for Ev. He finished the anti-virals late last week so some of the side effects of fatigue and nausea have subsided. He is still spending a lot of time resting. He still does not have any stamina and walking is more difficult that before because of his balance issues. He does try and we walk together from the house to the car. Today he was doing much better. It's been stressful for me trying to work, take care of him and take care of the house. With the cold weather coming the house needs to be winterized so I have to start working on that.
Ev and I went to our primary care doctor yesterday for the first follow-up appointment after his discharge from the hospital. Since Ev is uncertain about whether the sinus infection and/or the urinary tract infection have been cleared up, the doctor ordered blood work and a urine test. We should hear results tomorrow. He also has to schedule a follow-up appointment with Dr. Tiu.
Ev has a follow up appointment with Dr. Tellers, his neurologist the first week in November. So hopefully we will know more by then. We're thinking that Ev may start back to physical therapy next week. I am of the opinion that three days a week is too much so I am lobbying for two days a week. Hopefully, going back to physical therapy and being on a schedule will help Ev to get back to the "new normal".
Dr. Haus prescribed 5% lidocaine patches for my knee. I was amazed that the insurance covered them but they did. I have been using them with limited results unfortunately. They provide some pain relief but not a lot.
Some of Ev's friends have been keeping in touch and we both appreciate that. It's during times like these that you find out who your true friends are. Thanks to everyone for the prayers, good thoughts and support. We truly appreciate it.
