Journal entry by John Bussen —
Ring the bell! Mom finished her radiation treatments today. Of course it feels somewhat bittersweet. The radiation has REALLY sapped her energy, although it should be temporary. We hope that in a few weeks she will regain her strength, and then enjoy a long, tumor-free period while feeling good.
Steve had been her daily transporter, enjoying those tiny visits with Mom during the trip to and from the Cancer Center. And now that's come to an end. 😢 We all must follow Hickory Glen's ever-tightening restrictions amid this public health crisis. (As of today, residents can no longer even linger to visit in the lounge areas near the elevators and laundry rooms!) Residents have their meals delivered to their apartments; No visitors in and no going out-and-about. (Steve tells me they CAN go out for a walk around the parking lot in this mild, Spring weather.) It is very confining for them, and frustrating for us not to be able to visit. But, we all need to sacrifice for the Good of the Community (And we are aware that our sacrifice is not as great as those heroic service-providers taking care of all of us!)
Your continued prayers and well-wishes have been greatly appreciated by Mom and Dad and the entire family. Thank you so very much. We know every family is experiencing new concerns and difficulties - Let us all hold each other close in love and prayer. Stay well and safe.
