Journal entry by Helen Beall —
They say the days are long but the years are short when it comes to parenting. It has been three months since the accident. We have been talking about the “appointment” for months and finally, we had Ethel’s appointment. We are leaving with 98% great news and 2% “additional testing needed”. Let’s start with the great news. Ethel’s head fracture has healed well and after an evaluation from Neurosurgery, she does not need to see that department again. Yay! Ethel also aced Occupational and Physical Therapy and her motor skills are right on track. She is doing all the things babies should be doing at her age and “is super cute”. We already knew the last part. However, Ethel will require additional testing at Audiology for a hearing screening as Ethel may not be tracking noises at a level appropriate for her age. We will schedule this 2.5 hour test in the next month or so. We are optimistic Ethel’s hearing is fine but will provide an update on Caring Bridge after that appointment. We are scheduled to visit the Advanced Brain Clinic one more time. Our next visit is scheduled for late May. We left this appointment with more optimism that this will all be just a bad nightmare for us, and nothing more.
A $25 donation to CaringBridge powers a site like Ethel's for two weeks. Will you make a gift to help ensure that this site stays online for them and for you?
