As many of you know, Esther had a stroke on Friday, November 16. She was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital where they were able to stabilize her condition. She stayed there until last Sunday and now is back at Stonybrook.

Even though family members don't live in Corvallis, at least one of us has been able to be with her continuously. And we are coordinating with a growing cast of capable caregivers.

Life after stroke is unpredictable. Esther is able to swallow but not speak. She sleeps a lot but when she is alert, her mind is clearly working and we are getting creative about communication.

She loves getting cards--the huge one from the church was a big hit (literally!) Visiting is more complicated because she tires so easily. She tends to be more awake in the late afternoon. Feel free to call ahead. Or, if you drop in, please understand that she may not be able to give you the attention she would want to give.

Esther has a true community in Corvallis. Through her church and her other activities, she has found people who love her and appreciate her gifts. This community has been hugely important to her for forty years, and it is important to us.

We hope this website will be a way for us to share news with all the many people who care about our Mom. We appreciate your prayers and encouragement, and we know she does too.
