Ernest’s Story

Site created on September 10, 2020

Greetings family and friends. We are establishing this CaringBridge page to share information about the health of Ernest Gonzales. Ernie has been living with esophageal cancer (adenocarcinoma) for over 3 1/2 years. Although he has survived longer than most people with this kind of cancer, his condition has worsened, and he is no longer a candidate for additional treatment. No more chemotherapy. No more surgery. No radiation.  No more trips to MD Anderson in Houston. He is home with us, and we are setting up hospice care. We are eternally grateful to all those who have supported us on this journey and who made it possible for Ernie to receive treatment that has given him years of quality time with family and friends and to be able to travel and engage in favorite activities such as golf, fishing, and teaching mariachi. We will post periodic updates here.

Ernie passed on to his heavenly adventures on Sept. 17, 2020. María, Jennavieve, Maribella, and I (Anne) were at his side, and other family members and a priest came to help him make his transition. Our hearts are broken, and we miss him so much, but we know he is with family and friends who have also passed. And, he’s probably teaching mariachi music to the angels. Farewell my love, until I see you again.
