Erin’s Story

Site created on February 13, 2023

Welcome to my CaringBridge website.  I am a 40 year old mother of my beautiful children, Cameron and Hannah. My life partner and best friend Larry Boden has blessed me with amazing children Samantha, JJ and Alex (husband Shaune and three beautiful grandchildren Harper, Murphy and Bo). I work as a Security Compliance Program Manager at a software company located in Redlands, California.  Sounds dorky and boring but I absolutely love it. I enjoy golfing, bowling, true crime documentaries, cooking, scary movies, and spending time with my family and friends.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer after noticing a lump in my breast. The mammogram results came back as benign. The lump continued to grow so I went back to the doctor and took more tests. On February 13, 2023, I learned that I did in fact have a malignant tumor and tests were positive for breast cancer. I am Grade 3 which means the cancer is aggressive. I am also ER/PR and HER2 negative which means that my body is not receptive to hormone therapy. So chemo and surgery it is, but still working through treatment options. I feel very strong and am confident. With the love and support of my family and friends, I will get through this.  My family and I will use this site to keep family and friends updated on my journey.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Erin Ross

Last year, on this day around this time, I received a phone call that has, and will continue to change my life forever.  LB and I had just finished a round of golf and were loading our clubs into the truck when my phone rang.   I was in the middle of changing out of my golf shoes so I didn't pick it up and figured if it was important they would leave a message.  Hopped up into the truck, and shortly after that and the phone rang again. I looked and it said "Beaver Medical".  At that point I knew it couldn't be good.  I picked up the phone as we began the drive home and it was my primary doctor, not sounding like her usual peppy self.  I heard the words, "Invasive Ductal Carcinoma" and blah blah and my mind kind of went blank.  I knew she was telling me that my biopsy test results had come back positive for cancer.  Larry could tell that something was wrong and I wrapped up the call with my doctor and felt kind of numb.  He pulled the truck over to the side of the road and I started sobbing uncontrollably.  Those next few weeks were miserable, and the feeling of helplessness and worry was overwhelming.  Things started getting better once we started telling family and friends, and when my treatment plans were beginning to take shape.

Here we are a year later.  Been through a LOT - some of which I can't even remember (which is probably a good thing!).  I am sitting on my couch right now drinking a glass of wine, watching Netflix, remembering that day one year ago and feel so blessed to know that I am cancer free, and SO grateful for everyone around me that has been along for the crappy, bumpy ride.  I still am in treatment - daily radiation sessions which are going well, although today's kicked my butt and I needed to take a long mid-morning nap.  Piece of cake compared to the hell my body has already been through.

I will never be able to say thank you enough to all of my wonderful family, friends and co-workers.  And for my amazing children, mom and Larry for giving me the strength to fight.  Cheers to getting a second chance and to winning! Love to all.  💜
