Newest Update

Journal entry by Darin Dunphy

Hi Everyone,  I wanted to give you an update. I saw Dr.Baskaya, my neurosurgeon and Dr. Kienitz, my neuroendovascular radiologist on Thursday. The appointment was to review my recent MRI of my Brain and MRA of the arteries in my neck and brain. I am happy to report the tumor that remains has not grown. Dr. Baskaya is hoping, that since they cut off the blood supply to the tumor, it will not grow. If it does grow, radiation is an option. He is still thinking that would be a long way off and hopefully not at all.In fact, I do not have to see him again for a repeat MRI for a year.  Dr. Kienitz is the surgeon that treated me the day before my big surgery (as I like to call it). 😱 She did the balloon test on my carotid and delivered a clot to part of the tumor. She also came in during my big surgery to repair the damage to the carotid from removing the tumor. She placed the two stents in my right carotid artery. She explained that the blood flow before and after the stents looked good. She is having me do a cat scan in May to be able to see within the stents as the MRI is not able to do this function. I will be on blood thinners for at least a year if not longer to keep those stents open and working. She also only wants me doing light cardio for 6 months to a year as to not put stress on the stents, so walking is my new work-out. I am feeling very good and wanted to thank all of you so much for all your prayers and support. It helped me and my family so much.  I am truly humbled by the outpouring of love I have received. Before both of my surgeries, I was worried of course but I was relatively calm. The only explanation for that is all the prayers coming my way. Thank you and Thank God I had a good outcome. 🙏 Hopefully, Darin and I will not have to post to this website any more. I am hopeful my health will stabilize. I am off to get some steps in on this beautiful Spring day!🙌

Love,

Erin
