Erin’s Story

(Quick housekeeping note: If you want to donate to help Erin's medical expenses, make sure you donate using the GoFundMe page under Ways to Help, and not the Tributes page. There has been some confusion; the Tributes page money doesn't actually go to Erin, and we would hate for your generous gift to get lost. Thank you!)

Erin was diagnosed with breast cancer on December 30, 2019.   For the fact-finders among us, it is invasive ductal carcinoma and appears, at this point, to be in the early stages.  Treatment will include a bilateral mastectomy in the upcoming weeks. As she recovers from surgery, she will be off work for a significant period of time.  The next step will likely involve fertility preservation measures, as Erin and Jacob were in the process of starting a family when she got her diagnosis. The extent of future treatments to stop any further cancer growth has yet to be determined.  While she will be on endocrine therapy for many years, we expect the toughest parts of treatment to occur over the coming months. There are a lot of steps and decisions to cancer treatment, as many of you are unlucky enough to know.

Erin feels so lucky to have such a strong support network in her and Jacob's friends and families. She appreciates all of your love and support. Thank you!

We will update Erin's progress here, so you can check back to see how her treatments are going.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Erin Baldwin

Hello again! I am back for an update because a lot has been happening here. I had my 1 year follow-up- which doesn't seem possible! I have started to feel much better over the past week or so. My energy and appetite are really coming back! I am set up to see a bone specialist,  and I am eager to know if there is anything else I can do to protect my bones from these maintenance drugs. My oncologist has added another medication that was just recently released for those with "high risk" cancer. A previous version of the drug apparently has been greatly beneficial to those with stage 4 cancer. My doctor is very excited about the drug and was hopeful that I would agree to the regimen.  I did agree since I am willing to do most anything I can to stay cancer-free. I am a bit worried though that starting a new med might bring on more side effects just as I have started to feel better.  I have to take this medication 2x a day for 2 years. It costs $3500 per week!!! I am guaranteed free medication from the company for my first year. After that we will see what the options are. Anyway, I am overall excited about continued improvement.  I took my first dose this morning- so far so good! 🤞
