Icons like the Space Needle engender happy memories that bouy us up when facing Mr. Myrt’s continuing care at Fred Hutch Cancer Care Center in Seattle.
The goal is to reduce neck and inside throat lymphedema so he won’t need a permanent tracheostomy. The damage was caused by radiation, but that radiation thankfully annilated his malignant tumor.
We naively thought once the cancer was gone, that would be it. We had no idea resolving the radiation damage would mean 2 appointments weekly - indefinitely. We are trying to make it less likely he will fatally aspirate when swallowing.
The possibility of his cancer returning is essentially nil, as the tumor was encapsulated and, by definition, did not spread.
PS
Thanks to Cyndi’s dad for building the Space Needle for us.💜
