Erich’s Story

Site created on December 31, 2019

On the evening of December 30th Erich was in a car accident near Priest Lake where he was working.  After being stabilized at Newport Hospital he was transferred to Sacred Heart in Spokane where his facial injuries were deemed too complex for the surgery team so was ultimately transferred by Air Flight to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.  I’m so thankful I got to fly with him over here...never imagined this is how I would end back up at Harborview where I started my nursing career.  But he is ALIVE and breathing on his own and talking!  Please check back here for updates as it has been too overwhelming keeping up with texts.  I cannot thank everyone enough for the support we have received thus far.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Ashley Simpson

We graduated from the ICU last night 🙌🏻.  Wasn’t ideal that it happened at 3:30am and the move itself was really rough on Erich (bright lights, loud noises, beds banging into walls) but this morning he is finally resting comfortably.  I advocated to have his pain regimen tweaked a bit and it seems to be working so far 🙏🏻.

Plan is still to have surgery Monday to fix all of his facial fractures, which means 3 more days of him waiting, not doing much.  It’s so hard watching him not able to do anything he enjoys like listen or play music, reading, crosswords, or watching sports.  He’s just so sensitive to everything right now.  He did (and me too) get to see James yesterday which we all needed!  At home James frequently asks for a “big family squeeze” which we can’t do quite yet but I’m hoping soon!  He also got to talk to his Granny Sherryl on the phone for a few min.  I know he loved hearing her voice (and her, his!). That’s all the updates for now.  Hoping for a chill, uneventful weekend. 💙
