Emma Rose’s Story

Site created on December 21, 2020

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Emma and her family’s nightmare began over a month ago when she was found pulseless and not breathing by her friends. The ambulance was called and Emma was intubated in the field and then transported to Mercy Medical Hospital where doctors and staff worked to bring her back. Her prognosis for recovery was grim as she lay comatose in the ICU with tubes and wires everywhere. After what seemed like forever, Emma slowly came back to us and started fighting to live. And a fight it has been.

Over the last several weeks, Emma has been in and out of the hospital with continuing issues breathing. Her mom and dad were told repeatedly that it was due to the trauma of being intubated and will take time to heal. The final trip to the local hospital happened when Emma lost consciousness at school and again was in the ambulance. While in the ER, a CT scan was done which showed that her airway was extremely constricted and immediate intervention was needed to keep her organs oxygenated. After a failed attempt to intubate her, they tried a tracheotomy which was also unsuccessful. The final option was to bypass her lungs and oxygenate her blood directly using an ECMO machine. She was then transferred to Children's Hospital in Milwaukee in critical condition.

Immediately after arriving at Children’s she went into surgery with the the top team of specialists who were able to dilate her esophagus enough to get an intubation tube in and secure her airway. Since this point there have been a number of setbacks and challenges that has Emma fighting for her very life. As you can understand, money has now become an issue for the family as both her mom and dad are in Milwaukee with her. Money for food, gas, and paying the never-ending bills. Any donation is greatly appreciated as are your continued prayers and thoughts.

Thank you so much for your support as you become a part of Emma’s recovery story.
