Journal

The last few days have been the hardest for us.

We were able to get Emma transferred to Regional Medical Center in Manchester on June 2nd.  Hopkinton ambulance tiered with RMC ambulance to bring Emma back to our community.  Julie Kemp and Darris Morris provided excellent care in the ambulance for our Emma during her trip home from the University of Iowa Children's Hospital.  Kristi Niemer came down and drove me home in my Jeep so I wasn't alone and sobbing while driving.  I cannot tell you how much I appreciate them taking the time to help us! They are fantastic!

Emma arrived at RMC around 1030 that morning.  She was settled in her room and the nurses were wonderful.  Becca Krogmann was at Emma's side the entire time.  I knew that Emma was in good hands while I went to spend quality time with Kara and Axel.

Allison Burns PA, Jodi Helle NP and Dr. Christiansen provided Emma with everything she needed to be comfortable.  They were very involved in Emma's care and wanted what was best for her.  Cedar Valley Hospice was also wonderful, they helped with more than just medical care.  They helped with grieving information and were treating the whole family.

Emma passed away later that night on June 2nd.  She was a wonderful little young lady.  She was fun and goofy and so caring and kind.  She was always concerned about other people's feelings and she did her best to make people happy.  She loved to paint and be creative!  She was one of a kind and there will be a hole in my heart!

One great outcome of this tragedy is the amazing amount of support, thoughts and love that we have received from our friends and family.  We cannot fully express out gratitude to everyone!  We have gotten so many thoughtful gifts, house cleaning, flowers, freezer meals and gift cards.  Emma got many stuffed animals that she held in the bed and they brightened up her room at the hospital.

Services for Emma are pending her autopsy.  Please check my Facebook or other family members pages for service information.  Remember it is not what you say to a grieving person but how you made them feel.  I would love to see everyone at the service.
