Emily’s Story

Site created on May 20, 2022

On April 11th, 2022 I went into the ER due to ongoing nausea that was increasing, at first the provider was going to send me home thinking it was acid reflux. I asked that a CT test be performed, the results showed a large mass on my right ovary and multiple masses on my liver. Next would come ultrasounds, and MRIs to take a closer look. On May 2nd I had a total hysterectomy performed and they sent the mass in for pathology, that came back as stage 4 melanoma. I had an appointment with my Dermatologist to see if he could find the source of the melanoma cancer, he did find one spot that they did a biopsy on and it did come back as melanoma, but he doesn’t believe it to be the source of the spreading, since it doesn’t go deep into the skin layers. A PET scan was completed and determined that the cancer is in my liver and two lymph nodes, with other lesions that need a closer look. We have more steps to complete and then a meeting with the melanoma oncologist that will determine my care plan.  Thank you for visiting my Caring Bridge! Journal entry by Emily Ewald

Had my appointment today, Cancer is acting up in my liver, they are doing a few tests to pin point the level of tumors DNA in my blood... that will let us know if it's getting better or worse. They are setting up a brain CT, I need to have one every 6 months because I have a mutation on my cancer cells that makes me at higher risk for it to spread to my brain. I will know more after my blood work comes back.
