Journal

It's been months since my last update. Here goes...

It's been a rough few months for Emily. Physically, she has made huge strides toward her recovery. Mentally, she's had a few challenges. As you can imagine, she has been trying to overcome a major case of PTSD which has included nightmares, not sleeping, mood swings, memory loss and so much more. She's been through several treatment programs and continues her treatment once a week at this point.

We've had countless trips to Froedtert for follow up care and devising a plan going forward. Yesterday's trip included a visit to the neuro-psych team. It was a fear that she potentially had a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) from the accident. I am thrilled to report that she got the ALL CLEAR!!! No TBI!!! That's the best news that we could have hoped for.

Her "major" reconstructive surgery was supposed to be on January 7th. But, after a terrible experience for her, we ended up swithching surgeons which postponed everything. The new date for that surgery is March 31st. She will be looking at about an 8 week rcovery from it. We're told that of all the surgeries that she's had thus far, this one will be the hardest.

Once she has fully recovered from that surgery, we will start planning for her ostomy reversal. It's our goal that she can go off to college without that added hurdle. It's her dream to be able to dive in college so we are all crossing our fingers.

Speaking of college, even with ALL of these challenges during her senior year, she still has been accepted into 3 of them. Will she choose to be a Titan, Pointer or Phoenix? Only time will tell...
