Newest Update

Journal entry by Evan Prentiss

Good morning everyone!!  Just wanted to provide a little bit of an update as to what life is like (other than amazing and blessed!!)

So Emmy came home last Friday, and getting out of the NICU seemed like it took forever.  Val compared it to buying a car, which was fairly accurate.  As we pushed Emmy out of the NICU, we were greeted by non other than Vera, who has been waiting to meet her sister face to face for so long.  (Mind you, some of her first words when Emmy got home were "no hermana," so I think we are off to a good start.)  We finally got out of the "sales manager" officer, loaded up our new prize and headed home.  There is no need to discuss me driving at 6 miles per hour, or possibly overusing my turn signal.  Once home, we were surprised to find some "Welcome Home" balloons there, and those words never met more to me.  Memphis came running out, sat down right next to the door, and patiently waited her turn to say hi to the "thing" that she has been getting scents of for the past months.  Milan, well, she didn't care...no surprise there.

Emerson came home on oxygen (0.06 lpm), as well as a monitor to measure the oxygen amount in her blood.  This was more of a precaution than anything else, but after everything that took place, we were okay with a little precaution.  She had her first doctors appointment on Monday, and the pulmonologist made the decision that she no longer needed the oxygen.  Val and I were a little shocked, but we were ready to strap in for another roller coaster ride.  She also said that we no longer needed to sue the oxygen saturation monitor, but we pretended that we didn't hear that...one step at a time.  One of the nurse managers spoke to Val the other night, and worded it perfectly.  Emmy was weaned off the oxygen, and Val is being weaned off the monitor."

Her first pediatrician office was Tuesday, and she confirmed what we already knew...Emmy is perfect.  She was so impressed with how far she had come, and I think we all are.  We have a few other follow up appointments over the next couple weeks, and will keep you all up to date.

Life at home has been great, extremely tiring, but great.  Emmy is feeding awesome, Vera is a crazy lady, and the dogs think they are not getting enough attention....and life could not be more picture perfect.  Val continues to be one of the most dedicated individuals ever, and I am in awe of how she does it.

Thanks again for everything that you guys have don and thank you for all of your thoughts, prayers, help and everything else.  I look forward to what's next with the my girls at home, and will keep you all up to date.
