Today is Ember’s sixth birthday, her fifth in heaven. I want to have something profound to say on this date, but I’m not sure what that is. Maybe it’s because it’s been a busy week. Maybe the busy week is the profundity – one child excelling on his rec baseball team; two children starring in a play; another trying to finish an associate’s degree and figure out where he’s going next year; the oldest one doing a ministry fundraising event; the littlest making us smile every day; plus a granddaughter who also has a birthday this week! Our life is full, and that itself is God’s goodness to us. He has not left us (or even given us enough time) to dwell on our sorrows, but he has filled our lives with good things, many of which revolve around the children who are here with us on earth. 

 

Thank you to all those who are reading my book. Ember’s life is on many people’s minds again, perhaps more than it has been in years. And that is a blessing because I don’t want her to be forgotten. She was a delight, and her time with us, albeit short, was worthwhile and good. At the same time, we still wrestle with the fact that those sweet moments with her are tied up in our hearts with such a great trial of struggle and pain in caring for her. If you’ve read the book, you may be reminded of what we went through. And so it is still hard to reflect back. 

 

So on her birthday this year, my prayer is that Ember’s life would impact and encourage others, especially in your walk with the Lord. One of the ways to do that is hopefully through my book.
