Journal entry by Ely Newton

I took nearly a 2 month break from writing during the kids' summer break.  Sure enough, I've found myself crazy busy with all of their camps, classes, pool days, and play dates.  I've also managed to play in 2 sand volleyball leagues and brought my kids along, and the summer nights have been so fun for all of us.  I definitely feel like I overbooked this summer, overcompensating for missing the summer with these loons last year.  I've been incredibly happy and enjoying my time with my family and friends, as compared to being stuck in a hospital room attached to an IV pumping me full of poison.  I often find myself looking back to what I was doing this time last year, and I feel a mix of sadness, relief, and gratitude that we're passed all of the cancer stuff now.  I continue to do follow-ups every 3 months with my oncologist, and slowly try to get my strength and stamina back to my baseline.  It's going to take some time, but at least I have the time.

Not writing on a regular basis took me a little bit away from keeping myself feeling grounded and sane during the constant, hectic on-the-go schedules we've had. I learned throughout this past year that I really enjoy writing, and I think someday the kids will enjoy reading our experiences from my perspective.  I would like to continue writing and see where it takes me, with at least the minimum goal of keeping me grateful.  With a ton of Jamie's help setting it up, I have finally started my blog.  If you enjoyed any of my Caring Bridge entries, please feel free to check it out.  And if you think a friend might get something out of it, even as simple as a laugh or a cry, share it with them.  Just a side note, I've never followed a blog and I don't know what I'm doing, so it might look a bit bare bones right now.  Here it is:

Thank you all again for sharing this journey with me.  In whatever way you have shown your support, I am eternally grateful.  I hope I never go through this again, but at least I know if I have to, I've got the most amazing group of family and friends in my corner to help me get through it.  And for those of you who will continue the ride with me, let's gooooooo!!!!
