Ellie’s Story

Site created on October 19, 2019

Ellie started having knee pain in March of 2019. We didn’t think much of it because joint pain runs in her family and she had had pain in other joints before.  However during the following months the pain slowly got worse and her knee started to swell up so we made an appointment with an orthopedic doctor. He did an X-ray and immediately came in and told us that he thought she had bone cancer. They sent us for an MRI the next day and it was confirmed that she had bone cancer in her right distal femur. It was a 5 1/2 inch tumor just above her knee. She had her port placed and biopsy the following week and it was confirmed that she has osteosarcoma. We started chemo at Scottish Rite CHOA on July 2nd 2019. I keep a weekly blog to keep family, friends, and anyone else that is interested updated with the latest information and pictures. The website is called Ellie’s Healing Journey and you can find it by going to
