Journal entry by Jess Bishop —
Hi everybody! Sorry for the delay sending an update. I wanted to wait until today so that I had all good news to share!
First, Ellie’s ROP treatment went very well. She received injections in her eyes last week and had a follow-up exam today. The doctor said that almost all of the ROP was gone. He believes the rest should be gone when he checks her next week. We were very fortunate that this treatment was available. Ten years ago this condition was treated with laser surgery which would have reduced her vision to 1/3 of what it will be.
Ellie is also now off of all oxygen! She is breathing great on her own. She absolutely hated the nasal plugs being in her nose so she is very happy about this change.
We are also in progress of switching her over to a bottle instead of a feeding tube. She took her first bottle yesterday and will have taken 3 today. The goal being to have her on 8 bottles a day.
The last bit of good news is she is on track to come home around her expected delivery date (mid to late November)! She will need to be able to take 8 bottles a day and self-regulate her temperature in an open bed/crib. We should be switching to one of those soon. So at this time we have no reason to think she won’t come home perfectly healthy and happy!
Thank you everyone for your prayers. We appreciate all of you very much!!
