Ellen’s Story

Site created on August 18, 2019

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.  In the beginning of July, Ellen was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer that had already metastasized to the liver It was determined that the only means of treatment, (which is not curable, only treatable) is chemotherapy so surgery to remove the colon cancer was not an option.  She began her first round of chemo treatments July 24, 25 and 26.  After being home about a week and a half, she was having trouble eliminating her bowel and therefore could not take in food and nutrition.  Aug. 7 a by-pass colostomy was performed to allow her to be able to eat and gain nourishment.  Currently, she is feeling much better and has more energy than she has had in awhile.  Her follow-up appointment with the surgeon is scheduled for Aug. 29 after which there will be a discussion with the oncologist.  If everything remains on track, the next round of chemo will be Sept. 4,5&6.  The treatments really lay her low, but she did not struggle with nausea on the first round for which we are grateful.  Ellen has lost her hair and is trying to figure out what head covering is the most comfortable for her.    We both know that this is God's plan for us, although some days it's easier to deal with than others.  We are praying for God's healing, but also for strength, courage, clarity in decisions and for God to be seen through us in this journey.  Your prayers for us are coveted.  We appreciate your interest and concern.  Duet 31:8  The Lord himself goes before you and is with you.  He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; Do not be discouraged."  Grateful for God already knows the outcome - we can trust Him.
