Elizabeth’s Story

Site created on September 28, 2018

As many of you know, Elizabeth has been suffering from severe headaches for several months and has been trying to discover the source.  Since she is 17 weeks pregnant, people thought the symptoms might be related to the pregnancy.  However, some have been severe to the point of making her shake because of the pain.  Because the headaches persisted, she went to see a neurologist last week.  The neurologist wasn't sure what the problem might be, but recommended an MRI to rule out a brain tumor.  To our shock and dismay, she, in fact, was diagnosed with a large tumor in the frontal lobe.    We were fortunate to be referred to a renowned neurosurgeon, Dr. David Baskin, at Methodist Hospital.  Elizabeth was admitted to Methodist Hospital  immediately after her MRI on Tuesday, 9/25, and has been here ever since.  She has had numerous MRI's and tests and is scheduled for surgery later this morning (Friday).  The outpouring of love, prayers and support we have received from St. Luke's UMC, and family and friends has been overwhelming and uplifting .  Elizabeth, John and and our family have felt the love that has been expressed and given her confidence to face whatever is ahead.  We are taking this one step at a time, so we are not sure what additional treatments, if any, may be required after surgery today.  Rest assured that despite the seriousness of the situation, we have felt God's love every step of the way.  We appreciate all your love and prayers and will keep you advised of Elizabeth's recovery.

Jumping for joy may cause headaches, dizziness, fatigue, shortness of breath. Should you experience any of these symptoms, contact Elizabeth’s Neuro Oncologist as he is currently jumping for joy and can assure you the jumping should continue regardless of any of the associated risks.  To say Elizabeth received a good report would be an understatement. It was GREAT!!!! So wonderful in fact that Dr. Tremont was indeed jumping up and down with excitement at her continued progress. This was the best report Elizabeth has received since embarking on this journey almost 2 years ago. The two spots they have been watching closely show a significant reduction which signifies necrosis and healing. Praise be to God! Lots of blue was present in her scan, which we are always praying for! There was a sharp incline on her cognitive test. She is making connections more quickly and easily. Elizabeth’s next scan will be in 4 months and knowing that we will receive another great report, she will bump up to 6 months. Dr. Tremont prescribed more vacations and time with family. Done and done. As a side note, after I submitted my brief report this morning I was reminded of one of my favorite verses which I recite always in song form. My girls learned it as a song in preschool and I often find myself internally chanting it.
 Joshua 1:9

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

AMEN!!!

Love you all. Many many thanks for blessing our family with your thoughts and prayers.
