Elizabeth’s Story

Site created on May 12, 2021

Welcome to our CaringBridge website! We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting!

Elizabeth was diagnosed March 11, 2020 with three different congenital heart defects. She has Atrial Septal Defect (a hole between her atria), a cleft mitral valve, and supravalvular pulmonary stenosis (a thickening of the pulmonary artery). All of these defects require her to have open heart surgery. Without this surgery, she is looking at a lower life expectancy, difficulty playing sports and being active, as well as difficulty bearing children. Her cardiologist is confident that this will be her only surgery and will allow her to live a normal life.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Jennifer Autry

Hey everyone! Happy belated Independence Day! I hope you all were able to enjoy the day with family and friends. The kids really enjoyed seeing so many fireworks!

I know it has been a REALLY long time since I have given an update and I sincerely apologize for that. A lot of people have been asking how Elizabeth is doing and so I figured this would be a good way to inform all of you.

Elizabeth is doing GREAT! We could not be more thankful that the surgery she had was a success and she has grown to be a typical four year old girl. Her life is full of pink, purple, unicorns, rainbows, stuffed animals, purses and the occasional wrestle session with her brothers.

She no longer complains of being tired unless it's close to bedtime. Before the surgery she would say several times throughout the day how tired she was. We later found out it was because the blood flow from her heart was not pumping out efficiently and therefore affecting her energy levels. Now, there is no stopping her. She is full force from sun up to sun down and we love that she is so full of life. The scar from her surgery is barely noticeable which we are also thankful for. She is very proud of it, however, and will show it off when asked.

Moving forward, we will have yearly check ups with her cardiologist. Her most recent visit was this past February and she got the thumbs up that everything looked good and we do not need to come back until next February. As long as the yearly check ups continue to be good, we will then move to going every two years. Elizabeth will continue to see a cardiologist for the rest of her life but I believe that is a fair trade off for never having to have surgery again.

We appreciate everyone who continues to ask about Elizabeth and her progress and we also appreciate those who prayed for her and continue to pray for her. Please know that you are in our prayers as well. We love you all! God Bless!
