When we arrived at Cook's we were quite frazzled after the drive and very anxious to see her.  We found her in her NICU room still ventilated and sedated from travel, but we were just so happy to be with her again.  The team at Cook's was very helpful and thoughtful.  We had been planning on either staying with Kristy's Aunt Jo or at the Ronald McDonald House, but when we arrived we were told that we had the option to room in with Ellie.  We jumped at the chance to do so, even though it meant sharing a bed that was smaller than a twin.  We were both so tired the size of the bed didn't matter--just so we were close to Ellie.  In Ellie’s room there were cabinets for us to use for storage so we were able to unpack. There was a nice lounge for the parents where we ate our meals and attached to that lounge were several bathrooms with showers and a laundry room.  There had been a problem earlier that day with getting a breast pump for Kristy due to a mix up with the insurance in Lafayette. The lactation specialist at Cooks fixed everything by making sure we had a pump in our room with Ellie and she even ordered a pump through our insurance and had it delivered to our room when it arrived.  Those first couple of days were relatively quiet as it was the weekend.  Kristy was pumping every 2-3 hours and we were able to participate in some of Ellie’s care such as changing her diapers and doing her “oral care,” which entailed cleaning out her mouth and giving her a little breast milk on big Q-tips or even using a pacifier that was dipped in breast milk.  We did our best during those first few days to fall into a routine.
