Newest Update

Journal entry by Rebecca Bartholomay

Hello everyone!

Just an update on how Laine has been doing since she’s been home. 🖤

To say the first two weeks home were eventful…is an understatement. Laine got covid while in the NICU but was doing pretty good so we still discharged on the 18th. But once we were home, things got a little scary. Laine was struggling with her secretions and keeping food down. Poor thing was so sick and there wasn’t a lot we could do for her other then Tylenol and pedialyte! By Thursday she was on the uphill swing of things. We had a checkup in Fargo and all was well, we survived our first outing! Our nurses are also absolutely wonderful and are doing a great job with the tootsie. We are so thankful for them!!

She had her first Christmas and on Christmas Eve she rolled over onto her belly for this first time! How exciting! Some family stopped over to bring leftovers so we did get some holiday spirit. The days had been blurring together for us since we did not have nurse care over the holidays, so mom and dad were running on fumes 😅. Luckily Livy and Laine still had fun, kids have a knack for keeping that Christmas spirit alive 🖤

Then came Christmas night…..and by far the scariest night. The power had been flickering all evening and then about 8:30pm the lights went out for good. I had all of laines machines charged, but knowing we only had about 4hrs of battery life, it was the most helpless feeling holding her in the dark. Our backup generator was not hooked up yet, we aren’t in the new house, and there are cattle to water too. So we knew we were in a tight spot.

Luckily, Kendra and Ethan, had a generator going and we got the invitation to come over. After seeing a few pictures of high line poles snapped off, we knew there wasn’t going to be power for quite sometime haha. We are still hanging out at the cousins house since they have power again and we are still out! CCEC said we might get it back this week sometime. We are so thankful for the family and friends who reached out to help get generators going at our place and house us for the time being. I don’t know what we would have done without them.

Laine went from the same room for 4.5 months to two different houses within two weeks 😆. Our girls are troopers 🖤.

We are looking forward to 2024 and all the blessings it has to offer. 2023 was the hardest, yet the best year of our lives. So many hardships, but so many good things came of it. Laine has lots of doctors appointments coming up and we are so excited to see how much she has improved!

Have a happy new year!
