Edy’s Story

Site created on March 27, 2019

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.   Here is a little background on what Edy is dealing with:

When I was pregnant with Edy we found out in an ultrasound that she has what’s called a right aortic arch. Normally a person should have their arch on the left side. When the aortic arch develops on the right instead of the left, it creates what's called a vascular ring where things like the esophagus and trachea can become compressed over time. Her heart is perfectly healthy other than the ring. Surgery was performed Tuesday, March 26th, to correct the vascular ring and rerout her arch.
We are so grateful for the prayers and support offered so far. We will do our best to post an update or two, daily.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Stephanie Young

I apologize that I have taken so long to send an update.  After pretty much the same old thing at the hospital, we were able to come home last week!  We are still working on getting nursing help, but for the meantime John and I received training to provide care for Edy. My mom is also staying with us for a bit this summer to help with the transition.  Edy is doing well at home and seems happy.  It is great to be back together - Liza is excited to have us home.  We are learning our new normal.  The biggest things are taking care of the trach and her g-tube feedings.  However, we are determined to continue living our life.  We have already gone to a downtown outdoor event, visited the farmers market, and had a small gathering at the house.  Edy, in true fashion, has taken all of this in stride.

Thank you again for all the prayers and support everyone has given Edy.  We continue to move forward as we wait for her vocal chords to heal.  We ask for prayers for her healing and finding nursing care.  I will continue to send occasional updates through this site from time to time.

We are so grateful for all the care and help Children's Hospital of Colorado has given to Edy.  They have a big fundraiser coming up called the Courage Classic, which is a bike ride over the mountain passes of Colorado.  If you are looking for a charity to donate to, I have a couple friends riding in this.  Their pages are below.

Andrea Polito - Oncology nurse at Childrens, riding for the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders
