Journal

This has been an emotional few days. Sunday marked 2 years since Eamon’s bone marrow transplant. He also ran in his first track meet. Today is his ‘Moving On’ ceremony from elementary school. A great set of milestones and accomplishments to mark his insane journey. He is amazing. Truly being a kid again. He has been in the freezing cold pool every day since we set it up last week. He is actually sad that school is ending because he will miss running around with his friends. And he loves spending time with his cousins and can’t wait to get back to Vermont and the Cape this summer.

While he is not completely ‘done’ with everything, he is close and the outlook is fantastic. He used to go to the clinic weekly, sometimes twice in a week. Now he is going every 6 months. That is a huge vote of confidence by his doctors. And he hasn’t had any recurrence of his kidney issues, I’m not even sure we have anymore follow-ups with that set of doctors. What remains are re-doing all of his childhood vaccinations which he is about half way through, and will stretch another year or so. He ended up with too much iron in his system (diagnosed last September) as a result of almost a year of weekly+ transfusions. He now goes monthly for a treatment which actually draws blood and as insane as it sounds, they throw it away, diluting the iron concentration over time. We aren’t sure how much longer he will have to go for those sessions, it could be another year, he hates the ordeal but is a great sport.

We haven’t posted updates in a very, very long time. Chris and I often say that we should, yet the time passes and we keep embracing getting back to normal. I also have to admit that I’ve been a bit superstitious, not wanting to jinx his great progress. Today felt like a great day to share a few pics of this amazing boy so after all you have been through with us, you can see what we see. And to say thank you for all of your ongoing support, as we are healing and processing what has happened, we often talk about how thankful we are for all the ways this community supported all of us.

True to his nature, Eamon hasn’t wanted to celebrate or be the center of attention but I’m doing a lot of happy dances lately.

Have a great summer!
