Duane’s Story

Site created on January 1, 2024

Welcome to our Caring Bridge site. We are using this page to inform everyone of how Duane is doing and any changes going on. Please do not take offense if you have reached out and we do not answer calls/messages immediately as we are trying to navigate this new, unforeseen path we are going down with Duane.

If you aren't familiar, below is Duane's journey so far:
Duane suffered from a seizure in the early morning hours of October 26th (as I heard him describe it later to the grandkids, he felt like he was doing some wild disco moves that night, lol). Duane and Lucetta spent that entire day of him going through the ringer of multiple different tests trying to find the answer to the seizure as he had never experienced a seizure before. By the end of the day, he was given the diagnosis of a Glioma (brain tumor), but in the early stages at a slow-growing grade 1. He was referred on to a Nuerosurgeon for further evaluation and to include biopsy. The biopsy was performed without any complications and Duane recovered great. We returned for the biopsy results to find out the pathology came back as a more elevated, aggressive grade and eventually he received a new diagnosis of Glioblastoma, but with an unknown grade of 3 or possibly 4. Over the past few weeks Duane's symptoms have become more aggressive with mini seizures occurring many, many times throughout the day and some weakness affecting his mobility. He was started on steroids, chemo and radiation and unfortunately did not see progress, but further deterioration was noticed with his condition. Combine that with feeling not up to par at all, and the cocktail of meds, he has decided to choose Hospice for his further treatment where we will focus on him being comfortable and having the best days possible. He was admitted today into the Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha where we will start the process of finding a comfortable place for him for the future months.
